BritBox Commissions Contemporary Reimagining of Iconic British Detective Series “Dalziel and Pascoe”

2 February 2026 - Last updated 26 February 2026

ITV to be UK partner on the drama produced by West Road Pictures, in association with All3Media International

BritBox has commissioned Dalziel and Pascoe, a fresh and contemporary reimagining of the beloved British detective series, based on the books by Reginald Hill, in an arrangement with All3Media International.

The series centers on the relationship between seasoned detective Dalziel, and the newly qualified, by the book DS Pascoe. Despite their clashing methods, Dalziel and Pascoe work together to form a formidable partnership that is underscored by humor, heart and humanity.

Reginald Hill’s books were previously adapted into a highly successful television series, starring Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan, which aired on British television for 12 series from 1996-2007.

Dalziel and Pascoe is co-created for television by Colette Kane (Department Q, Vera) and Daisy Martey (Vikings: Valhalla). Other writers on the series include new writing duo Chris Ryden and Jon Rowe, and Danusia Samal (Gangs of London, Bodies).

Jon Farrar, Stephen Nye, and Lucie Wolfman serve as executive producers for BritBox. The series will stream on BritBox in the US and Canada.

As UK partners for Dalziel and Pascoe, ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill and Commissioner and Head of Scripted Comedy, Nana Hughes have worked with BritBox on the series. Nana Hughes is overseeing the production on behalf of ITV, and the series will be produced by All3Media’s West Road Pictures (Ridley, Hollington Drive, Blood). The drama will air on ITV and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

Quotes:
Jon Farrar, EVP Programming, BritBox:“Dalziel and Pascoe has always been about friction, intellect, and the uneasy bond of opposites, forged in pursuit of truth. Dalziel and Pascoe’s chemistry, wit, and moral clarity perfectly complement this richly layered mystery. It’s timeless crime storytelling that not only honours but sharpens its legacy.”

Nana Hughes, Commissioner and Head of Scripted Comedy, ITV
: “It’s a genuine privilege to bring  Reginald Hill’s much-loved Dalziel and Pascoe back to the screen for a new audience. At the heart of this series is the enduring, unexpected chemistry between two very different detectives, and we’re excited to explore that new dynamic.”

Jonathan Fisher, Managing Director, West Road Pictures:
“It is a real honour to be reimagining Reginald Hill’s iconic detective series for a contemporary audience. We hope that viewers will fall in love with this unlikely yet brilliant pairing all over again. With a first-rate creative team assembled, we can’t wait to get started on this series, which represents our fifth commission at West Road Pictures.”

Lauren Jackson, VP Scripted Content, All3Media International: “Anchored by two bold, complex leads, West Road Pictures’ contemporary drama is packed with intrigue, wit and gripping mystery narratives. A distinct and exciting addition to our renowned detective slate, we’re delighted to partner with ITV and BritBox to bring Dalziel and Pascoe to a global audience.”

The 6-part series will be directed by Isher Sahota (Run Away, Missing You), and produced by Juliet Charlesworth (After The Flood, Happy Valley). Executive producers for West Road Pictures are Jonathan Fisher, Ellie Birnie, and Ingrid Goodwin. Colette Kane will act as lead writer and Executive Producer.

Dalziel and Pascoe will begin filming in the spring of 2026 in the North of England.

West Road Pictures is the production company launched by Jonathan Fisher in 2019. An All3Media company, West Road are the producers of Ridley for ITV, starring Adrian Dunbar. Since launching, West Road have also produced the award-winning Blood, Penance, and Hollington Drive. Dalziel and Pascoe is West Road’s fifth drama commission.

Dalziel and Pascoe is produced in association with All3Media International, who are the drama’s global partner.
